Moon Gate converts to House of Foong Lin

Name change is official

Bethesda’s Moon Gate restaurant is now the House of Foong Lin, and the new signage—installed yesterday morning—makes it official.

In January, Moon Gate was taken over by Fu Cheung, longtime owner of Bethesda’s   Foong Lin restaurant, which closed in August due to new construction (see my blog, Jan 4). At the time, Cheung said he was unsure whether he would be changing the name of his new digs to Foong Lin, which means “harvest” in Chinese.

Cheung said today that the changeover is complete, although he’s still waiting for the new menu covers.

And he hopes that the return of the familiar name will alert fans about its new location. The former Foong Lin had a 25-year-run at the corner of Norfolk and Fairmont Avenues.

“Slowly, everybody is learning about it,” said Cheung.
