Brickside Food & Drink, the long-awaited restaurant and bar at 4866 Cordell Avenue is quietly opening tonight, January 31.
The space, which has housed a variety of eateries and watering holes over the years (most recently Bubby’s deli), has been transformed into an airy space with garage-like doors that open onto a front terrace. There’s seating for 60 in the dining room, and 25 barstools.
Drink-wise, the concept is martinis and cocktails inspired by the Prohibition era. Think Brickside Moonshine Punch, made with moonshine, vodka, fruit, prosecco and soda water. There’s even a mural in the main dining room that says “Vote Against Prohibition.”
Food-wise, the concept is Italian-American, but way beyond run-of-the-mill bar fare. In fact, the chef is co-owner Andrea Pace, who is also owner and chef of Villa Mozart in Fairfax, Va., a popular Italian restaurant with serious cuisine. As such, the menu at Brickside includes bar bites such as skewered chicken Milanese and polenta fries with blue cheese, and entrees such as thinly-pounded crispy pork loin and aged T-bone steak alla Florentina. The kitchen will also be turning out pasta, pizza and Panini. Click here to see the menu. Pace will be going back and forth between his two restaurants, but will be situated fulltime at Brickside for the time being.
The other owners are Brian Vasile and Andy Seligman, who own Adams Morgan’s Grand Central, and Reem Arbid, who worked with Pace for 10 years at Villa Mozart.
The restaurant features four 50” plasma TVs, and a huge projection screen that takes up a good portion of the back wall. Just in time for the Super Bowl.
