Look for more authentic Chinese dishes

Fu Cheung, longtime owner of the shuttered Foong Lin restaurant, has packed up his Peking duck and moved to a new locale. Cheung confirmed today that he purchased the Moon Gate restaurant on 4613 Willow Lane in Bethesda, and that a new menu was already in place.

Foong Lin, located at the corner of Norfolk and Fairmont Avenues for nearly 25 years, closed in August, due to new construction.

While many of the dishes at the new location will be the same as those served at the original Foong Lin, Cheung said he will be adding a number of new authentic Szechuan and Hong Kong-style dishes.

Cheung said he has plans to renovate the interior in the near future—new paint, lighting and a spiffed-up bar. At this point, he said he’s unsure when or if the name of the restaurant will be changed from Moon Gate, citing “too much money” to do so.

In the meantime, it’s good fortune for former Foong Lin fans.
