Divino Lounge & Restaurant, the Argentine steakhouse in Bethesda that made a big splash when it opened about 10 years ago, appears to be closed.
The restaurant was dark last night and tonight, and the door was locked today at lunch time. A peek through the front windows indicated that the furniture in the front section of the restaurant had been removed. A staffer at Shangri-La, the Indian restaurant next door, said he saw the dishwashing machine being removed on Thursday evening.
Efforts to reach the owner were unsuccessful.
The Wisconsin Avenue restaurant gained attention for its he-man-sized portions of Argentine-style grilled meats and sausages, and for its free tango lessons. In recent years, the quality of the food had declined, and the buzz over the place faded.
