Montgomery Drivers Lead State in Bus Stop Violations – According to a study by the Maryland State Department of Education one day last April, 1,494 Montgomery County drivers ignored the stop arm of school buses picking up and dropping off students at a stop. The county installed cameras on a number of buses to catch violators this school year. [Maryland State Department of Education]

McDonald’s Closes For Building Construction –  The McDonald’s on East-West Highway, across from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, closed this week ahead of construction of a nine-story commercial and ground floor retail building on the site. The McDonald’s will return to the new building once completed in 2014. [Robert Dyer]

NFL Donates $30 million to NIH For Brain Injury Research – On the same day the Centers for Disease Control released a study that said NFL players are three times as likely as the general population to die from a neurodegenerative disease, the league made a $30 million donation to NIH for brain injury research. Police Up Patrols in Somerset – Montgomery County Police District 2 commander Capt. David Falcinelli told Town of Somerset residents that officers patrolled the community for 40 hours last week in the wake of one successful and two attempted burglaries in the last month. [Chevy Chase Patch]
