Your tickets are purchased and your bags are packed. Now, what to wear on your flight to Labor Day fun?
My travel style has evolved greatly over time. Years ago, I used to roll out of bed a few minutes before leaving for the airport and (I'll admit it) look like a slob walking up to my gate. My mother would shudder to ask what I was wearing when I would call to tell her that I had arrived at the airport safely…
MOM: Did you brush your hair?
ME: No, I put it up in a bun.
MOM: Are you wearing that beat up James Perse tee?
ME: Yes, it happens to be my favorite.
MOM: You're not wearing flip flips are you?
ME: Yes, they're comfortable.
Many years (and flights) later, I’ve learned that you never know who you might run into at the gate or sit next to on the plane, so you better look put together (mom is always right). Not to mention, looking good for a 6am flight makes you feel a lot better about being up that early.
Here's a look at my recipe for a great travel outfit and how you can get the look.
Cozy Cardigan: This N. Peal sweater is perfect to bundle up in when it gets chilly on the plane.
Soft Tank: I picked up a few of these tanks at Madewell Montgomery Mall. They are perfect for layering (and under 20 dollars).
Skinny Jeans: Citizen of Humanity Avedon Jeans are my absolute favorite. You can never have too many pairs. They have a lot of stretch, which makes them great to wear on long flights. You can pick up your pair at South Moon Under.
A Comfortable Flat: Sometimes the walk from security to the gate can feel like miles, so I live in my Tory Burch flats when I'm traveling.
Statement Necklace: I'm a sucker for statement jewelry. BaubleBar has an endless supply of unique pieces that can't be missed (and they're super affordable). This necklace is a great way to jazz up this simple, casual outfit.
Great Travel Bag: M Z WALLACE bags are perfect for travel. Between carrying all those September issues, your iPad, iPhone and travel documents, this bag is super durable and has tons of pockets to keep everything organized. Sassanova has a great selection for fall.
