Foong Lin, the popular Chinese restaurant that has been a fixture at the corner of Norfolk and Fairmont avenues in Bethesda for 25 years, will close July 31. The restaurant is being shuttered to make way for the construction of a 17-story luxury apartment building that is expected to break ground in early 2013.
Fu Cheung, the owner of Foong Lin, said that he had hoped that JBG, the lead developer on the apartment project, would allow him to stay open for the rest of the year, but that he received a letter from JBG this week informing him that he needed to be out by the end of July. Cheung said he hopes to re-open the restaurant in another spot and is looking for a suitable location in Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Potomac. "If I can afford it, I'll be in Bethesda," he said.
The apartment building will feature 236 units, 6,500 square feet of retail/restaurant space and 3.5 levels of underground parking.
