I spotted this logo yesterday in the window of the former Images salon Georgetown Square in Bethesda. Area stylist Ira Ludwick will open a salon in the long-vacant space near Washington Sports Club at 10400 Old Georgetown Road in late August/early September.
Vornado property manager Cristina DiSandro says they’ve been waiting for a high-end salon to take the space after Images left in late 2010. “Ira has a very established career in the hair industry and is extremely talented,” DiSandro says.
Ludwick is a Silver Spring native who’s been doing hair since 1975. He’s a member of Intercoiffure America hairstyling organization and won a North America Hair Styling Award (NAHA) in 1997.
Ludwick plans to give his customers a luxe experience and personal attention in a modern setting. “I love my craft,” Ludwick says. “The salon environment has always been an oasis to me.”
He’s bringing in his longtime master colorist Robyn Munson and will transform the 700-square-foot former barbershop in the back into a modern hair color studio. Styling and cuts (which start at $45) will be done in the front (the fromer Images space). Cuts will start at $45; a cut by Ludwick is $150.
Construction workers at the site yesterday estimated they’d be finished in about six weeks. The salon should be realistically be staffed and ready for business by early September, according to DiSandro. Ludwick is currently styling hair at Salon Central.

In more hair news, a Drybar will be opening up at 4840 Bethesda Avenue this fall, which is especially good news for those of us lacking the sleight of hand to do anything more with a blowdryer than point and shoot. The new salon offers blowouts in a bar-themed cush setting.
Instead of liquid libations, clients can belly up for one of six looks including the “Straight_Up,” simple and straight; a “Southern_Comfort,” big hair and volume; and the “Mai Tai,” messy and beachy.
All blowouts are $40, including a shampoo. Additional services like a scalp massage, conditioning treatments and more can be had for an additional fee.
There are currently 13 other locations for the expanding chain in places like Scottsdale, Az., New York City and San Francisco, with 12 more slated to open in 2012, including one in Georgetown. The first Drybar opened just over two years ago in Los Angeles.
