Carmen Lopez, the owner of Current Boutique, says she dresses the woman who can’t be seen in the same thing over and over: “I concentrate on the working woman with an active social life who needs a revolving wardrobe.”

Revolving wardrobes usually involve a lot of cash. But Lopez keeps her fashionista clients happy with gently used designer clothing from contemporary names such as Trina Turk, Milly, Diane von Furstenberg, Anthropologie and French Connection for about one-third of the original retail value. Current specializes in dresses—day, cocktail and evening.

Lopez opened her first location six years ago in Virginia. She now has shops in Alexandria, Clarendon and Logan Circle in D.C. The first MoCo location is set for a late August opening at 7220 Wisconsin Ave. in Bethesda.

In addition to gently used clothing and accessories, Lopez sells jewelry, which ranges from $28 to $58, and new clothes from New York and Los Angeles, as well.

“We encourage everyone to clean out her closet,” she says. No appointment is necessary to consign clothing and she says her friendly, fashionable staff works to alleviate those first-time consigner jitters. The store’s website also comes with instructions on how to consign.
