When Borders closed several of its oversized bookstores in our area, the size of the old storefronts begged the question: What could come in to fill the space?  The answer: More large, economy-sized chains, and in this case, a warehouse—full of shoes.

A DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse) will open in the long-vacant storefront at Friendship Center. D.C.’s Prince of Petworth posted a picture of the sign in the window at 5333 Wisconsin Ave., N.W. on Wednesday.

Wendy Seher of Federal Realty Investment Trust, who is leasing the property, says they can’t speak for DSW, but expects that the store will be open by the fall—late October or November—of this year.

In MoCo, there are DSW locations in Bethesda, downtown Silver Spring and Wheaton.

That plus the H&M stores opening at the former Borders in Silver Spring and the former Pottery Barn at Chevy Chase Pavilion, means miles of new shopping coming our way.
