On May 4, hundreds of neighbors, friends, grandparents, parents, kids and babies joined together for Westbrook Elementary's 2012 "Almost Summer" themed carnival.
The ongoing construction on the Westbrook campus created a new opportunity for Carnival as the activities moved to the streets, stretching it into a multi-block street fair.
Food trucks lined the street including Red Hook Lobster Pound, Thatsalata, Top Dog and Armands.
"It may seem hokey, but truly this neighborhood has a small-town type feel that just isn't the same elsewhere," said Dana Rice, President of the Friends of Westbrook School Foundation. "The idea of everyone coming together, even the hundreds who don't attend or have kids at Westbrook, is something special."
Greg Wang, Carnival chair, says this year's event hosted nearly 1800 neighbors and grossed more than $30,000 for Westbrook's PTA programs.
