How would you describe your personal style?
“I’m a do-it-yourselfer. So if I get anything from anywhere, chances are I’m going to customize it, embellish it or take it apart. A lot of my jewelry is vintage or costume, old things taken apart.”
Who are your style icons?
“My grandmother. A lot of my jewelry is her stuff that she’s donated. She’s a thrift store goddess; she finds the best stuff, customizes it and brings it to life. I think I’ve picked that up a little bit, I’ll carry the tradition.”
Where do you like to shop?
“When I do shop, I like thrift stores. At Reddz Trading Post I’ve found a few things.”
What is one must-have wardrobe item?
“I had a pair of leather boots I wore almost every day in the cold weather. Those would definitely be something I can’t live without.”
How has your style changed or evolved??
“I went to a private high school where we had to wear uniforms so what I did in order to endure that boredom was that I wore crazy stockings, crazy footwear, eye makeup – yellows and greens and oranges. I just did whatever I could to individualize.”
What's on your fashion wish-list?
“I look at Refinery 29 a lot, and now and then I’ll see something and think, ‘Oh wow, I really like that.’ And on PS I Made This I’ll get inspiration but there isn’t one piece necessarily.”
Fashion most embarassing moment??
“I have way too many of those but I went through a phase after high school where safety pins were everything. I can’t sew very well so I would fit things with safety pins and looking back that was a bad idea. That was just a disastrous time in my life sartorially.”
