Home furnishings shop, Anora, is closing

The owner blames the tough economy

Anora Home in Friendship Heights is currently having a sale offering 30 percent to 50 percent off its entire inventory. And, once the warehouse is empty, owner Sean Amini says he’ll shutter the high-end European home furnishings store.

He says there is a lot of stock left, so there’s a possibility that the shop may stay open into June. He says the “vast majority’ of items are actually 40 percent to 50 percent off and include such luxe items as genuine Italian leather sofas.

This economy has been the toughest thing to deal with,” Amini says, who opened Anora at Wisconsin Avenue and Jenifer Street in 2005.

He started feeling the pain of the recession four years ago, but during the past two years he says things have gotten worse. He says he has no choice but to sell everything and cut his losses.
