The brown paper shading the windows at the old Gifford’s Ice Cream & Candy shop in Chevy Chase is about to come down to reveal luxoptics, a new luxury eyewear retailer, as Patch first announced. The transformed 750-square-foot space will probably open in the second week of March, reports owner Robert Bojarski.
Though Bojarski has run Eyeland in Silver Spring for over 30 years with his brother, he will be the sole proprietor of the new shop. “I always wanted to work with a very unique product,” he says. “We’re focusing on high-end, exclusive lines of frames made by small European outfits.” Bojarski explains that the frames are not mass-produced but are custom-fitted to suit the precise needs of his customers.
Among the many fashion-forward offerings by names like Lindberg and Mykita will be surgical steel frames that are “strong, light and thin.” Frames by Gold & Wood feature exotic woods and can be customized to suit customers’ face shape and complexion.
In addition to specialty specs, Bojarski will also carry popular mainstream brands like Oliver Peoples and Silhouette. The mid-line frames will start at $250 with high-end ones costing around $500.
Bojarksi will offer other optical services as well. “We’re carrying some new advancements in lenses, especially for progressive bifocals,” he says. He will offer lenses that are custom ground by a laser, with the curve individually calculated by a computer.
But what’s most important is that he says his location at Wisconsin Circle is “one of the few areas in Chevy Chase where we could have ample parking”—a key reason he chose the site. “We’ll be picking up the parking for the customers,” he adds.
