Chevy Chase Pavilion gets a redo

Shops closing as the center begins a $32-million renovation

Stores have been shuttering in rapid succession at the Chevy Chase Pavilion with the last major closing last winter when Pottery Barn went dark.

Washington Business Journal reports today that Clarion Partners LLC is slated to begin a $32-million renovation this month at the Pavilion, which is scheduled to be finished in September. The plans include new retail coming to the shopping center.

That would explain a chain of store closings including Stein Mart last spring, the Pottery Barn and most recently the small stores Alpaca International and rug shop La Musa, which were asked to leave rather than renew their leases, according to the WBJ's report.

Though Magda Adru of Alpaca International says she’ll be closed by February 29, she is scouting around for a new area location. Her Annapolis store will remain open as well as shopping online. However, Ann Marie Baldine did not confirm that La Musa is closing and declined to comment on the situation at this time.

The Chevy Chase Pavilion website, still under construction, already has a new look and logo. We’ll keep you posted on the new stores to come.
