Most of us don’t really do anything with the margins of doodles we create in even the most stimulating meeting.
Bethesda graphic designer Sam Campbell based a business on them, Fickle Face, which offers whimsical interactive shirts for kids.
“I’ve been doodling my whole life,” she says.
She put that skill to work to design the colorful “critters” on her shirts. It took her two years since she had the idea to do the product research and get them made and ready for sale.
Newly launched in October, the site offers cotton shirts sized 2T to 5/6T with interactive parts that combine to form the unique creatures on the front.
Think a fabric Mr. Potatohead kids can wear all day. The polyester pieces stick on with Velcro and can be stored in a little pocket on the shirt. Packages of additional parts are available for $12.
Campbell plans to sell her shirts at The Blue House in Bethesda in February. The shirts are $34 and are machine washable.
