How they met
The couple met in college at Elon University in North Carolina while attending the same birthday party. Later, Kim became the "sweetheart" of Jake's fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi.
First date
Sandy's, a bar near Elon University. Jake insisted on going out on a school night, which Kim resisted. "I was incredibly focused on school work in college, and Jake really brought me out of my shell," Kim says.
The proposal
Jake was visiting Kim in Philadelphia, where she was attending the University of Pennsylvania for a Master of Social Work. Jake proclaimed he wanted to make Kim breakfast, and after a few trials, and a little help from Kim, he made two plates worth. He asked her which plate she wanted, one with a ring box on top. "I chose the plate with the ring," Kim says.
What she loves most about him

What made it special
“Our dog, Puddles, was our flower dog,” Kim says. Also, the couple chose the chaplain from Elon University to marry them. "He created a beautiful, fun and light hearted ceremony, truly reflecting our taste," Kim says. "My friends continue to tell me that the ceremony was 'so Kim and Jake!'"
