Have you been to Konplott yet? Newly opened in October, the locally owned gem in Montgomery Mall is packed with handmade fashion jewelry designed by artist Miranda Konstantinidou, a Greek native who resides in Germany.

When owner Neli Balia first saw the jewelry in her native Lithuania, she was blown away. “I was just amazed that one person can create such a wide range of jewelry,” she says.

Inspired, she and her husband opened the first U.S. store in Montgomery County, where the now-Bethesda resident and former ballerina spent time growing up. There are about 50 locations throughout Europe and Russia.

Pieces are arranged in 17 different collections and range from $20 to $1,000, according to store manager David Grabelle. What sets them apart are the innovative designs and the depth of colors conveyed in opaque glass and twinkling Swarovski crystals.

If you’re looking for a unique gift, Konplott may be the ticket. The pieces are all limited editions. New collections come into the store seasonally–about every four months. Keep an eye out; Balia is already scouting out possible locations for a second store.

The fashion-forward H&M has expanded its reach in our area, opening at Westfield Wheaton tomorrow at noon. The first 100 shoppers in the store will be treated to an H&M T-shirt and an “Access to Fashion Pass,” valued from $10 to $300.

The new store will carry apparel for women, men and children from newborn to age 14. There will also be sections for lingerie, maternity and accessories.
