Stationer Nick Hanzlik, the man behind the R. Nichols brand of stationery and prints, is launching his first-ever line of D.C.-themed holiday cards.

The artist, known for his cover illustration of French Women Don’t Get Fat, will be at Neiman Marcus Mazza Gallerie Wednesday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. as part of the store’s “We’re Full of Surprises” holiday event.

He will also present a line of signed and numbered Washington D.C. –themed holiday prints ($48).

Hanzlik, a native of D.C. and graduate of the Sidwell Friends School, created his cards around his childhood memories of familiar scenes around town.

On his website, he notes that his sixth-grade Sidwell teacher, Mrs. Dater, made the class use cartridge pens and do “monumental artwork.” He says she is the reason R. Nichols exists today.

His holiday cards depict a Georgetown style home, holiday shoppers near the Washington Monument, the Key Bridge and the White House. The cards are available in packs of 10 for $25.

After the launch, you can also find the cards at Ginger in Bethesda and at http://www.rnichols.com.

The seasonal soiree includes a number of other treats—a hot chocolate bar with assorted toppings, holiday tunes sung by the Washington Girls Chorus and a $50 gift card that can be used that evening in Contemporary, Dress Collections and Career departments.
