Mid-Pike Plaza, the shopping center on the corner of Old Georgetown Road and Rockville Pike, is going to have a new look and a new name.
Federal Realty Investment Trust (FRIT) has announced that they are looking to rename the center Pike & Rose (Montrose Road runs along the back) in conjunction with a redevelopment of the shopping center due to start next year.
Andrea Simpson of FRIT reports that lease negotiations are under way for a luxe iPic Entertainment movie theater — at this point, the first in the area.
iPic Theaters, currently in cities like Austin, Tx., Scottsdale, Az., and Pasadena, Ca., offer not only a film, but gourmet meals prepared by a chef and mixed drinks, wine, beer and reclining luxury seats.
You can bring your food and wine inside and munch while you watch—a two-in-one punch perfect for both sidestepping any first- or blind-date awkward dinner conversation and saving an extra hour or so of babysitting fees. Click here for a sneak preview.
The revamped mixed-use center will feature 120,000 square feet of retail, 80,000 square feet of office space and 460 residential units. It is slated to be complete in 2014.
Mid-Pike Plaza is now anchored by Toys R Us and Filene’s Basement on either end with stops like Chipotle, Bally Total Fitness, World Market and The Knightsbridge Trading Company in between.
