Looking for adventure or something new? Motivation may have just arrived.

The Ski Center is sponsoring The North Face speaker series, featuring extreme skier Ingrid Backstrom.

If you need a little motivation to try something new and daring, or just to get off the couch, The North Face “Never Stop Exploring” speaker series may be just the ticket.

The Ski Center, which specializes in ski apparel, accessories and gear on Massachusetts Avenue and Fordham Road in Northwest D.C., is hosting the annual event at the Avalon Theater Oct. 4.

Champion free skier Ingrid Backstrom will speak about her adventures as a competitive, extreme athlete in a presentation called “Whimsical Dreams: My Life on Skis.” A question and answer session with the athlete will follow.

Bethesda resident Linda Kahane, co-owner of the Ski Center, says that while general seating tickets are free, registration is required at www.thenorthface.com/speakerseries.

Tickets are first-come, first-serve. Guaranteed seating is $8, and admittance to the VIP reception prior to the event is $20 and includes appetizers, wine and beer.

Backstrom hails from Seattle, Washington, and was featured in the 2007 documentary “Steep” about extreme skiers.

All proceeds from the event go to the Ski Liberty Racing Club.
