Angelico la Pizzeria, the Bethesda location of a locally-owned chain, closed its doors on Monday, August 22. I always liked their pizza, but unfortunately not enough of the rest of Bethesda apparently did.
“I couldn’t make it there,” says Fatma Nayir, who founded the chain with her husband in 2003, with their first pizzeria on 4529 Wisconsin Ave. in Tenleytown. Including that location, there are five other Angelicos, all franchise owned. The now-defunct pizzeria on 4925 Bethesda Ave. which opened in November 2009, was owned by the couple, who live in the area.
Fatma Nayir said the place is being renovated and will reopen as a barbecue restaurant selling dishes such as ribs, brisket and lamb. Watch this space.
