The French seem to impart a certain style to everything they do—even picture framing. A second U.S. outpost of French custom framing shop L’Eclat de Verre is set to open today at 7015 Wisconsin Ave. in Chevy Chase. “We offer things that are different,” says Caitlin Fowkes who has managed the luxe shop in Georgetown since it opened there four years ago. L’Eclat de Verre, which is based in Versailles, concentrates on the mat to create a unique look—using 18th-century cutting techniques and wrapping it in artisanal papers from around the world.

Fowkes says they can frame everything from shot glasses to photos to fine art. Prices range from $15 to $120 a meter but due to the nature of custom work, can vary depending on the matting and moldings.
