The space occupied by Bethesda’s McCormick and Schmick’s, the seafood restaurant on 7401 Woodmont Ave. with a popular bargain happy hour, is up for rent and is being marketed, according to Transwestern, the landlord of the building. The real estate company’s website lists August as the occupancy date for the 10,823-square foot space.
Tori Harms, a spokeswoman for the Portland, Oregon-based chain, would not confirm that the restaurant is closing, however. “At this point, we are still in negotiations with our landlord for lease renewal on that space. Other than that, the details of those negotiations are not something we publicly discuss. That’s the only information I can provide,” she said.
In another development, yesterday (May 2), the company announced that it would be receptive to sales offers.
"The Board has determined to engage in a sale process as well as a broad evaluation of other strategic alternatives to enhance value for all McCormick & Schmick’s stockholders," said Douglas Schmick, chairman of the restaurant’s board of directors, in a press release. The chain, which has been in business for more than 30 years, went public in 2004.
It’s too soon to know whether the company will be sold, or if and when the Bethesda location will shutter. In the meantime, get those $2.95 Happy Hour cheeseburgers and $3.95 chicken quesadillas while you can.
