The Montgomery County Board of Education has announced that it will take action Monday night on “the conditional appointment of the next superintendent of schools.” According to the announcement, “the appointment will be contingent upon final negotiation of an employment agreement and the written approval of the state superintendent of schools, as required by state law.”
The conditional appointment is the only action item on the board’s agenda for the public portion of the meeting, scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in the Carver Educational Services Center in Rockville.
Monday’s appointment follows a national search for a replacement for Superintendent Jerry Weast, who will retire June 30 after 12 years as head of MCPS. The board interviewed a limited group of candidates selected from the 30 people who applied for the job, including 18 current superintendents.
No word yet on whether the selected candidate will be available at Monday night’s meeting.
