This spring, when you shop for produce at the Bethesda Central Farm Market, you’ll be able to grab a Belgian waffle for breakfast, too. Or a falafel sandwich for lunch. Waffles and falafel are only two of the new offerings at the Bethesda Central Farm Market, which starts up the season on Sunday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in its same location on Elm Street between Wisconsin and Woodmont avenues.
Other new stuff: Each week, a different Maryland winery will offer samples and bottles to purchase. Local artists will periodically sell handmade food-inspired goods, such as wooden salad bowls, utensils or glass goblets. The Bread Oven at Quail Creek, based in West Virginia, will be selling specialty breads and baked goods; Cavanna Pasta from Richmond, Va. will be offering stuffed pastas and fresh noodles. There will even be a new vendor selling locally grown citrus and citrus plants.
Now is also the time to get cookin’—the market is holding a strawberry recipe contest that will be judged by local chefs. Entry forms are due prior to May 1; the contest will be held on May 15. Go to www.bethesdacentralfarmmarket.com for more information.
