Jiffy Shoppes, a pizza and sub shop across the street from Andrews Air Force Base in Suitland, Md., is winging its way to Bethesda with a second location, landing at 4924 St. Elmo Ave. That’s the space that previously housed David Craig, and more recently La Plaza.
This will be the first restaurant endeavor for George Agouridis and his wife Jennifer Collins, who both grew up in the Bethesda area. As a kid and during college at American University, Agouridis worked at the Suitland location, which has been owned by his father and uncle for more than 30 years. “I always wanted to expand the business,” says Agouridis, 29, who lives in Kensington.
The menu will feature steak and cheese subs, pizza and Greek specialties such as moussaka, spanakopita and gyros. And this sounds like the best part: Margarita Agouridis, George’s mother, will be baking homemade Greek pastries.
After a major renovation and brand new kitchen, look for a late June opening.
