If you’re looking for a small token of devotion this Valentine’s Day, rather than a serious edible commitment, the compact-packaged sweets from Marla’s Magic may be just the ticket. A Silver Spring company owned by Marla Romash, Al Gore’s former press secretary turned pastry whiz, Marla’s Magic sells confections via website orders and word of mouth. Now, just in time for Valentine’s Day, Romash’s pretty and unusual sugar-sprinkled pretzels, cake truffles and hand-painted sugar cookies are available at the Chevy Chase Supermarket (8531 Connecticut Ave.). The pretzels are perfect for those who covet sweet-and-salty combos, and the cake truffles—little bites of cake and icing encased in white or dark chocolate—are true to their name. My favorite (hint to husband) are the Coconut Cream.
