Support Groups for Alzheimer’s Caregivers

The National Institute on Aging recommends that caregivers and loved ones of Alzheimer’s patients attend a support group to share their feelings and concerns, as well as exchange helpful ideas and resources. Stress and isolation can affect both the physical and mental health of caregivers, says Lynn Meltzer, who facilitates a group at Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church in Bethesda. A support group, she says, “is a safe and confidential place to express grief, share experiences and even the occasional humorous moment.”

All the area groups listed below are free. Meetings generally last 90 minutes; call ahead to confirm dates and times.
