Two fitness studios will open in the ground floor of an apartment complex in downtown Silver Spring, the developer announced Thursday.

Orangetheory Fitness and Pure Barre have signed leases for space in the Central apartment building on Fenton Street and will open in early 2018, according to developer Grosvenor Americas.

Pure Barre has more than 375 locations across the country, including gyms in Bethesda and two in Rockville. It brands itself as the largest barre franchise, focusing on the workout method that uses a waist-level horizontal bar often associated with ballet.

Orangetheory promotes high-intensity interval workouts and boasts of its one-hour training program. There are over 600 locations of the gym nationally, including in Potomac, Kentlands in Gaitherburg, Olney and Washington, D.C.

Orangetheory will open in a 3,800-square-foot space, while Pure Barre will operate in a 1,200-square-foot space.

“Our goal is to provide to the local community an eclectic group of retailers that bring energy and excitement to Silver Spring,” Grosvenor Senior Vice President Jon Carr wrote in a press release.

Central, which is expected to open by October, is a complex with about 240 apartments and 15,000-square-feet of retail space across from the Silver Spring Library. Other businesses set to fill the space have not been announced.
